Use External Email with Your Domain

You can use an external email provider with a domain registered or hosted through 4UHosting. This is usually done by changing the domain’s MX records.

Your external email provider should give you the DNS records you need. These often include MX records and may also include SPF, DKIM or DMARC records.

If your domain’s DNS is managed in the 4UHosting client area:

  1. Log in to https://clients.4uhosting.co.uk.
  2. Choose Domains.
  3. Find the domain and select Manage.
  4. Open the DNS management option shown for the domain.
  5. Add or update the records supplied by your email provider.

If your DNS is managed in cPanel instead:

  1. Log in to the 4UHosting client area.
  2. Choose My Services.
  3. Find the hosting service and select Manage.
  4. Select Login to cPanel from the left side.
  5. Open Zone Editor.
  6. Choose Manage next to the domain.
  7. Add or update the MX records supplied by your email provider.
  8. Add any SPF, DKIM or DMARC records your email provider has supplied.

Some cPanel accounts may also show an Email Routing option. If you are using an external mail provider, this will usually need to be set so mail is handled remotely rather than locally.

Be careful when changing MX records. Incorrect email DNS can stop mail from being delivered. If you are unsure which records to change, contact support before making the update.
