Uploading Your Site Files

Use cPanel File Manager to upload and manage website files.

Open File Manager

  1. Log in to cPanel.
  2. Open File Manager.
  3. Open the folder for the website you want to update.

Main Website Folder

For the main website on your hosting account, upload files to:

public_html

This folder is the document root for the main domain.

Do not delete the other folders in your hosting account. They may contain email, logs, statistics, system files, or other account data.

Other Domain Folders

If the website is for another domain on the same hosting account, check the domain’s document root in cPanel.

Upload the website files to that domain’s document root folder.

Upload Files

  1. Open the correct folder in File Manager.
  2. Click Upload.
  3. Choose the file from your computer.
  4. Wait for the upload to finish.
  5. Return to File Manager and check that the file is in the correct folder.

Upload Several Files

If you need to upload a full website with many files, compress the website files into a zip file first.

  1. Upload the zip file in File Manager.
  2. Select the zip file.
  3. Click Extract.
  4. Check that the files extracted into the correct folder.
  5. Delete the zip file when you no longer need it.

Homepage File

For most websites, the homepage should be named:

index.html

The filename should be lowercase.

If You Need Help

If you are not sure which folder to use, open a support ticket before uploading or deleting files.
