Update a Plugin in WordPress

WordPress shows available plugin updates in the dashboard and on the plugins screen.

To update a plugin:

  1. Log in to your WordPress admin area.
  2. Go to Dashboard.
  3. Select Updates.
  4. Tick the plugin you want to update.
  5. Select Update Plugins.

You can also update plugins from Plugins by selecting update now beside the relevant plugin.

Before updating important plugins, especially on ecommerce or membership websites, make sure you have a recent backup. If the plugin is part of a paid product, check that your licence is active before updating.
