Transferring Domains to 4UHosting

Transferring a domain to 4UHosting changes who manages the domain renewal.

It does not automatically move your website or email. Nameservers control where the domain points.

Start a Domain Transfer

You can start a domain transfer in either of these ways:

  • Choose Transfer My Domain when ordering a hosting package.
  • Use the Transfer Domains option from your 4UHosting customer account or the 4UHosting website.

Before Transferring a Non-UK Domain

For most domains other than UK domains, ask the current provider to:

  1. Unlock the domain.
  2. Give you the authorisation code, also called the EPP code or EPP key.

Enter the EPP code when you place the transfer order with 4UHosting.

These transfers often take several days to complete.

Nameservers Before or During Transfer

If you want the domain to use 4UHosting services before the transfer completes, update the nameservers at the current provider.

Use these nameservers if the domain has a hosting plan with us:

  • blue1.4uh.net
  • blue2.4uh.net
  • blue3.4uh.net
  • blue4.4uh.net

Use these nameservers if the domain does not have hosting with us, but you want to use our DNS service:

  • green1.4uh.net
  • green2.4uh.net
  • green3.4uh.net
  • green4.4uh.net

60 Day Transfer Rule

Some domains have a 60 day transfer rule.

You may not be able to transfer a domain if it has been registered, renewed, transferred, or had certain registrant changes made within the last 60 days.

The 60 day rule does not stop you from hosting the website with us. You can still point the domain to 4UHosting by changing the nameservers, then submit the transfer when the restriction has passed.

UK Domain Transfers

For UK domains such as .co.uk, .me.uk, .org.uk, and .ltd.uk, place the transfer order with 4UHosting first.

Then ask the current provider to change the domain’s registrar tag, also known as the IPS tag, to:

PDR-IND

Important: Make sure that you submit your transfer request with us before changing the tag, as the system needs to know it is waiting for the tag change to come in.

UK domains are free to transfer to us and no additional year is added as part of the transfer.

UK domains do not normally have the same 60 day transfer restriction and can usually be transferred at any time.

If the tag is not changed to PDR-IND, the domain will not transfer to us.

If Your Domain Type Is Not Supported

If the domain extension is not one we support for transfers, you can still point the domain to 4UHosting by changing its nameservers.

In that case, the domain registration will stay with the current provider, but the website or DNS can point to us.

If the Transfer Fails

If a non-UK domain transfer fails, we will normally contact you.

For UK domains, the transfer depends on the current provider changing the registrar tag. If the transfer has not completed after 48 hours, contact the current provider and ask why the tag has not been changed to PDR-IND.
