Mail Server Hostnames

The mail server hostname is the server address your email program uses to connect to your mailbox.

Recommended Mail Server Hostname

For most mail clients, use:

mx.yourdomain

Replace yourdomain with your own domain name.

For example, if your domain is example.test, your mail server hostname would be:

mx.example.test

Use this for both incoming and outgoing mail.

Recommended Ports

  • IMAP: 993 with SSL/TLS
  • POP3: 995 with SSL/TLS
  • SMTP: 465 with SSL/TLS
  • Alternative SMTP: 587 with STARTTLS

SMTP authentication should be enabled.

Find the Exact Settings in cPanel

  1. Log in to cPanel.
  2. Open Email Accounts.
  3. Find the email address you want to set up.
  4. Click Connect Devices.
  5. Scroll to the manual settings section.

If the Hostname Does Not Work

Check that the domain’s DNS records are correct and that the mailbox exists in cPanel.

If you are unsure, open a support ticket and tell us the email address you are trying to set up.
