I’ve Exceeded My Disk Space

Your hosting account has an overall disk space limit.

If the account reaches its limit, parts of the service may stop working properly because the server cannot save new files.

This can affect websites, email, logs, statistics, and other account functions.

What to Do First

  1. Log in to cPanel.
  2. Check the disk usage for the account.
  3. Look for large files, old backups, unused website files, and large mailboxes.
  4. Delete anything you no longer need.
  5. Empty trash folders in webmail or your email program if you use IMAP.

Check Email Usage

Email can use a lot of disk space, especially if you use IMAP.

With IMAP, messages stay on the server, including sent mail, deleted mail, and attachments.

Check each mailbox and remove old messages you no longer need.

Check Website Files

Look for:

  • Old backup files
  • Unused website folders
  • Large media uploads
  • Cache folders
  • Old installation files

Do not delete files unless you are sure they are no longer needed.

Upgrade Your Hosting Plan

If you still need more space after clearing old files and email, you may need to upgrade your hosting plan.

Open a support ticket if you are unsure what is using the space or which plan to choose.
