Fix a Duplicate Featured Image in WordPress

A featured image can sometimes appear twice on a WordPress post or page.

This usually happens when the theme displays the featured image automatically and the same image has also been added inside the page content.

  1. Log in to your WordPress admin area.
  2. Open Pages or Posts.
  3. Edit the page or post where the image appears twice.
  4. Check whether the image has been added inside the main editor content.
  5. If the same image is already set as the featured image, remove the copy from the main content.
  6. Update the page or post.
  7. View the page and check that the image only appears once.

If you want the image to appear in the content instead, remove it from the featured image setting rather than removing it from the editor.

If the image still appears twice after checking both places, the theme or page builder may be displaying it automatically in more than one area. In that case, check the theme settings, template settings or page builder layout.
