This error normally means your email program cannot connect to the outgoing mail server.
It is often caused by incorrect SMTP settings, blocked outgoing mail ports, or security settings in the email program.
Check the Outgoing Mail Settings
Use these settings for sending mail:
- Outgoing server: mx.yourdomain
- Recommended SMTP port: 465 with SSL/TLS
- Alternative SMTP port: 587 with STARTTLS
- SMTP authentication: on
- Username: your full email address
- Password: the mailbox password
Replace yourdomain with your own domain name.
Check SMTP Authentication
- Open the account settings in your email program.
- Find the outgoing mail server or SMTP settings.
- Make sure authentication is enabled for the outgoing server.
- Use the full email address as the username.
- Save the settings.
- Try sending again.
If the Error Mentions Port 25
If the error message mentions port 25, the email program is using old non-secure SMTP settings.
Change the outgoing SMTP port to 465 with SSL/TLS, or 587 with STARTTLS if your email program asks for STARTTLS.
If It Still Does Not Work
Check that the email address and password are correct.
If you are using antivirus, firewall, or VPN software, temporarily check whether it is interfering with the email connection.
If you still cannot send email, open a support ticket and include the full error message.
