Domain Privacy Protection

Domain privacy protection hides domain registrant contact details from public domain lookup results.

In the past, many registrars offered this as a paid add-on called privacy protection, ID Protect, or WHOIS protection.

How Privacy Works Now

Domain privacy is now handled differently because of GDPR and modern domain registration rules.

For domains with registrant details in the UK or EU, personal registrant details are normally hidden automatically from public WHOIS or RDAP lookup results.

Our registrar will hide registrant details broadly in public lookup results, whether the registrant is an individual or a business.

Do You Need to Buy Privacy Protection?

In most cases, no separate privacy protection purchase is needed for UK or EU registrant details.

If privacy handling depends on the domain extension, registrar, or registry rules, the available options will be shown during registration or inside your domain management page.

What May Still Be Public

Even when registrant details are hidden, some domain information can still be public, such as:

  • The domain name.
  • The registrar.
  • The domain status.
  • The registration and expiry dates.
  • The nameservers.

If Your Details Are Showing Publicly

If you believe your personal details are showing publicly for a domain registered through 4UHosting, open a support ticket.

Include the domain name and where you saw the details, and we will check it for you.
