How to Create and Download Backups in cPanel

Create a Full Account Backup

  1. Go to Files > Backup.
  2. Click Download a Full Account Backup.
  3. Choose Home Directory from Backup Destination.
  4. Enter an email address if you want cPanel to notify you when the backup is ready.
  5. Click Generate Backup.
  6. Return to the Backup page later and download the backup from Backups Available for Download.

Download a Home Directory Backup

  1. Go to Files > Backup.
  2. Find Partial Backups.
  3. Click Home Directory.
  4. Save the backup file to your computer.

Download a Database Backup

  1. Go to Files > Backup.
  2. Find Download a MySQL Database Backup.
  3. Click the database name.
  4. Save the backup file to your computer.

Restore a Partial Backup

  1. Go to Files > Backup.
  2. Find Restore a Home Directory Backup, Restore a MySQL Database Backup, or the restore option you need.
  3. Click Choose File.
  4. Select the backup file from your computer.
  5. Click Upload.

Notes

  • cPanel can restore partial backups from this screen.
  • A full account backup is normally restored by the hosting provider, not directly inside cPanel.
  • Download backups before making large website changes.
