An inode is a file-system record. In practical terms, each file and folder in your hosting account uses an inode.
This means a hosting account can run into inode limits even when the total disk space does not look full. Large numbers of cache files, email messages, thumbnails or temporary files can all increase inode usage.
To check inode usage:
- Log in to the client area at https://clients.4uhosting.co.uk.
- Choose My Services.
- Find the hosting service and select Manage.
- Select Login to cPanel from the left side.
- Look for inode usage in the cPanel statistics area.
- Open Disk Usage from the Files section if you need to investigate which folders are using the most space.
If inode usage is high, common areas to check include cache folders, old backups, unused email and large upload folders.
Do not delete files unless you know what they are. Removing the wrong files can break a website or email account. If you are unsure, contact support before making changes.
