How to Change Directory Indexing in cPanel

Indexes screen in cPanel

Open Indexes

  1. Go to Advanced > Indexes.
  2. Browse to the directory you want to change.

  1. Click the folder name to open subfolders.
  2. Click Edit beside the folder you want to configure.

Choose an Indexing Option

  1. Choose No Indexing to stop visitors seeing a file list.
  2. Choose Standard Indexing to show a basic file list.
  3. Choose Fancy Indexing to show a file list with more details.
  4. Choose Default System Setting to use the server default.
  5. Click Save.

Notes

  • Use No Indexing for folders that should not show a public file list.
  • Index settings do not password-protect a folder.
  • Use Directory Privacy if the folder needs a username and password.
