Change a Theme in WordPress

Changing your WordPress theme changes the design and layout of your website.

Before changing theme, it is sensible to make sure you have a recent backup. A new theme can alter menus, widgets, page layouts and other display settings.

To change your active theme:

  1. Log in to your WordPress admin area.
  2. Go to Appearance.
  3. Select Themes.
  4. Find the theme you want to use.
  5. Select Activate.

If the theme is not installed yet:

  1. Go to Appearance.
  2. Select Themes.
  3. Select Add New.
  4. Search for the theme you want.
  5. Select Install.
  6. Select Activate when you are ready to use it.

After changing theme, check the main pages of your site to make sure everything still displays as expected.
