Can Receive Email but Can’t Send

If you can receive email but cannot send, the outgoing mail settings are usually incorrect.

Sending and receiving email use different settings. Your email program must authenticate with the outgoing mail server before it can send messages.

Check SMTP Authentication

  1. Open the email account settings in your email program.
  2. Find the outgoing mail server or SMTP settings.
  3. Make sure SMTP authentication is enabled.
  4. Use the full email address as the username.
  5. Use the mailbox password.
  6. Save the settings.
  7. Try sending again.

Check the Outgoing Server and Port

Use these settings for sending mail:

  • Outgoing server: mx.yourdomain
  • Recommended SMTP port: 465 with SSL/TLS
  • Alternative SMTP port: 587 with STARTTLS
  • SMTP authentication: on
  • Username: your full email address
  • Password: the mailbox password

Replace yourdomain with your own domain name.

If Your Internet Provider Blocks Sending

Some internet providers block old non-secure outgoing mail ports.

Use SMTP port 465 with SSL/TLS enabled, or port 587 with STARTTLS if your email program requires it.

If It Still Does Not Work

Check the full email settings in cPanel under Email Accounts and Connect Devices.

If you are still unable to send, open a support ticket and include the error message from your email program.
