This article applies to ICANN domains, including many common domain extensions such as .com<\/strong>, .net<\/strong>, .org<\/strong>, .info<\/strong>, and .biz<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

ICANN requires registrars to check that domain registrant contact details are accurate. This is why you may receive verification emails after registering, transferring, or updating a domain.<\/p>\n

When Verification Is Required<\/h2>\n

You may need to verify the registrant contact details when:<\/p>\n

    \n
  • A domain is registered with contact details that have not been verified before.<\/li>\n
  • A domain is transferred in.<\/li>\n
  • The registrant contact details are changed.<\/li>\n
  • The registrar has reason to believe the details may be inaccurate.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    How Long You Have to Verify<\/h2>\n

    You normally have 15 days<\/strong> to complete the verification.<\/p>\n

    The verification email will be sent to the registrant email address on the domain.<\/p>\n

    If the verification is not completed in time, the domain may be suspended until the contact details are verified.<\/p>\n

    What Happens During the Verification Period<\/h2>\n

    During the 15 day verification period, the domain should normally continue to work.<\/p>\n

    If the verification is not completed, the domain may stop resolving. This means the website, email, and other services using the domain may stop working.<\/p>\n

    What to Do If You Receive a Verification Email<\/h2>\n

    1. Check that the email refers to a domain you own.<\/li>\n
    2. Open the verification link in the email.<\/li>\n
    3. Follow the instructions on screen.<\/li>\n
    4. Keep your contact details up to date in your 4UHosting customer account.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      Annual Contact Reminder Emails<\/h2>\n

      ICANN-accredited registrars must also send a yearly reminder asking domain owners to review their domain contact details.<\/p>\n

      If the details are wrong, update them as soon as possible.<\/p>\n

      If Your Domain Has Been Suspended<\/h2>\n

      If your domain has stopped working because of ICANN contact verification, contact us.<\/p>\n

      If the registrant email address is wrong, we may need to update the domain contact details and resend the verification email.<\/p>\n
