Domain Registration
When your domain is registered, we control its technical operation and make any required changes on your behalf. You remain the registered owner (registrant) of the domain at all times. To register a new domain name simply click the "Register" link from the "Domains" section of our main menu.
Choosing Your Domain Name
In theory, if you want to run a business from a website you would choose the domain extension of .co.uk, .com (which stands for company) or .biz for business. Non profit organizations might want to go for .org or .org.uk. Personal sites can be pretty much anything but most commonly .me.uk .net or .info are often used. These days the boundaries are blurry and we see all these domain types being used for all sorts of things.
The name you choose for your domain is very important.
Dont's...
Don't make it too long or complicated. People wont remember the address.
Don't put too many hyphens in, one is probably enough.
Don't use brand names. If you are running an Ebay shop, don't use the word "Ebay" in your domain name. (We usually get contacted the next day by their lawyers and told to remove it).
Do's...
Do make your domain name relevant to its content.
Do use an email address when registering that you will have full access to in the future.
Do take some time to think about the extension. Should you register the .com and the .co.uk to prevent others from stealing your idea ?
Do get the spelling right.
Domain Transfers
If you have purchased a domain with another company, you don't need to transfer it to us. You can simply have the domain's DNS details changed by your current host. However, transferring your domain to us will ensure that it is being looked after properly and in the case of .com .net .org, biz and info domains, a further year of registration is added. We charge a transfer fee of £3.99 per domain.
As mentioned above, there are two options if you have a domain with another company. The first is what we call a DNS Nameserver Change. You simply ask the company with whom the domain is registered to change your domains nameservers to ours. Our nameservers are as follows...
NS1.4UH.NET
NS2.4UH.NET
NS3.4UH.NET
NS4.4UH.NET
Once you have had the nameservers changed, your domain will point to its new home on our hosting servers within 24 hours. You will still continue to pay the company with whom the domain is registered for any domain renewal fees.
The second option is a Domain Transfer. This option will move your domain under our administrative and billing control. You still remain the official registrant at all times. To transfer a domain to 4UHosting.co.uk simply choose the "Transfer My Domain"option when you purchase your hosting package. Alternatively, you can use the "Transfer Domain" link from our main menu.
You will still be required to contact the company that you originally purchased the domain from. Here is what you will need to tell them...
In all cases, ask them to change the nameservers. This makes sure that your domain will be up and running quickly on our hosting servers. Be sure to tell them that you wish to transfer the domain away.
Additionally..
For .com .net .org .biz and .info transfers:-
Ask your previous host to UNLOCK the domain as you wish to transfer it away. If the domain is locked, it cannot be transferred.
You will need to obtain an authorization code from your previous provider. We cannot transfer your domain without this code. Once you have obtained the auth code, simply inform us of the domain name and auth code so we can initiate the transfer request.
For UK Domain Transfers:-
To transfer a UK domain, (co.uk me.uk org.uk) you must first submit a transfer on our website either by using the "Transfer Domains" option on the menu, or by choosing to transfer the domain when you place your hosting order. Once your order has been placed you must ask your previous host to change the IPS Tag (sometimes referred to as the Nominet Tag) to ours. Our tag name is EASYMEDIA. UK domains are free to transfer and no additional years are added as part of the process.
Note: If your domain is from a registrar in another country such as co.za etc, You must use the nameserver option, we cannot accept transfers for any domains other than those we sell.
If your transfer fails
For all domain types other than .co.uk me.uk and .org.uk you can re-submit your transfer request from inside your account area (at no extra cost). You can also check on the transfer status from our main menu.
UK domains simply need a tag change (a process which takes literally minutes to perform). If the transfer hasn't been successful after 48 hours you will need to contact your previous host and find out why they have not performed the tag change yet.
Transferring away from 4UH
We will never charge you to move your domain away from us or to make changes to your domain's DNS settings. To transfer a .com or .net domain, simply ask us via a support ticket to unlock the domain and prepare it for transfer, then ask your new host to submit a transfer request. For .Org, .Biz and .Info domains, ask us for the domain's auth code then ask your new host to submit a transfer request. For all UK domains, inform us of the new IPS Tag you wish to use for the domain and we will have it changed within 24 hours.
Note: Once we have registered a domain for you and paid the registrar, it is not possible to obtain a refund on the order. Please check the spelling of your domain before you hit the checkout button!
