.UK Domain Orders

Please take note of the following information when ordering a UK domain name.

UK domain names are different to other domain types in that they require legal registrant information to be submitted at the time the order is placed. It is important to make sure this info is correct, as it cannot be changed later without contacting the UK domain registrar, Nominet, directly. Nominet charge a fee (currently £10 +VAT) to change your legal registrant type.

There are a number of legal registrant types associated wth UK domains. Thesre are...

Individual
UK Limited Company
UK PLC
UK Partnership
UK LLP
Sole Trader
UK Registered Charity
UK Entity (other)
Foreign Organisation
Other Foreign Organisation

In most cases, you will be registering a domain as an Individual, Sole trader, or a Limited Company.

Note about .ltd.uk domains.
.Ltd.uk domains are reserved solely for Limited companies. You can only register the name that matches your company exactly to the letter. These are checked against Companies House, so there is no point attempting to register an ltd.uk domain unless you are doing so for a registered business. As an example, our company name is 4UH Limited - so we can register 4uh.ltd.uk. There is no variation allowed, so we wouldn't be allowed to regster 4uhosting.ltd.uk as this is not our company name.

The rules are very strict. If you enter a company ID when it is not needed, enter an invalid ID or you try and opt out of the whois details for any other type than Individual, the registration will fail. We are hoping to make the form validation on the domain configuration page better, so that in future it won't allow you to fill out certain fields, depending on the registration type. Until then, please take note of the above and if you have any questions, let us know.
